why don't they leave the smokers alone for a change and pick on someone else. Like the Coke and Pepsi drinkers. There's some credible evidence that high fructose corn syrup causes diabetes. And if they raised the price of a can of coke or pepsi a buck, the kids wouldn't drink so much of it. There are so many little places they could raise taxes. But they always go after the smokers. It's not fair.
I am a fomer smoker who was taxed and hassled out of the habit years ago. However, I am happy to say that for the 25 years I did smoke in Massachusetts, I bought 99.9 percent of my cigaretts in New Hampshire. Every time they raise the taxes in MA, the cigarett sales increase in NH. I suspect the loss in sales offsets any presumed increase in revenue from the increased taxes. Everybody loves a tax they think somebody else will pay.
They should tax CIGARS,WINE and the expensive HARD STUFF....obviously they are the fat cats and dogs!

HEY, MNN, LAY OFF THE COKE AND PEPSI DRINKERS. Soda doesn't harm anyone besides those who drink it, it isn't immoral, and if parents have such a problem with it, they should limit the amount their kids have.
No beverage tastes as good as soda. I barely survived Lent without it; life without Coca-Cola would be glum. Diabetes is not a communicable disease; if we soda drinkers want to get it, it should be none of your business.
If the state does make us pay more for cigarettes, we'll just buy my father's cigarettes by the carton in low-tax New Hampshire.
