A reader sends us the following letter from State Rep. Kathi Reinstein:
LETTER FROM REP. REINSTEIN TO LEGISLATORS REGARDING LEGISLATION TO MAKE THE FLUFFERNUTTER THE OFFICIAL SANDWICH OF THE COMMONWEALTH (6-20- 06)I doubt Sen. Barrios would ever want to sponsor such legislation, and while I still say such actions are quite trivial considering the real problems our Commonwealth faces, it's impossible not be amused by Reinstein's proposed legislation. That being said, the Fluffernutter Threat Level has been reduced to Orange.Dear Colleagues,
I will be filing legislation to make the Fluffernutter the official sandwich of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. I believe we need to preserve the legacy of this local delicacy. I invite you to sign on to this legislation by Friday, June 23, 2006 at 12 noon.
FYI: Fluff contains no fat, and is one point on the Weight Watchers diet program. According to the Fluff website, there are no artificial preservatives, stabilizers, emulsifiers, or colorings in Marshmallow Fluff.
I have included a link which will hopefully provide more information on this nutritious treat.

Thanks for your consideration in this important matter.
Representative Kathi Reinstein
16th Suffolk District
ADDENDUM, Aaron Margolis::
Perhaps Sen. Jarrett Barrios should look at some of our State's official symbols for other not-so-nutritious delicacies:
Official State Dessert: Boston Cream Pie (Adopted 1996)
Official State Cookie: Chocolate Chip Cookie (Adopted 1997)
Official State Berry: Cranberry (Adopted 1994)
I see lots of fat and sugar in there...
