Rep. Reinstein Introduces Legislation To Make The Fluffernutter The Official Sandwich of The Commonwealth

A reader sends us the following letter from State Rep. Kathi Reinstein:

LETTER FROM REP. REINSTEIN TO LEGISLATORS REGARDING LEGISLATION TO MAKE THE FLUFFERNUTTER THE OFFICIAL SANDWICH OF THE COMMONWEALTH (6-20- 06)

Dear Colleagues,

I will be filing legislation to make the Fluffernutter the official sandwich of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. I believe we need to preserve the legacy of this local delicacy. I invite you to sign on to this legislation by Friday, June 23, 2006 at 12 noon.

FYI: Fluff contains no fat, and is one point on the Weight Watchers diet program. According to the Fluff website, there are no artificial preservatives, stabilizers, emulsifiers, or colorings in Marshmallow Fluff.

I have included a link which will hopefully provide more information on this nutritious treat.

Thanks for your consideration in this important matter.

Representative Kathi Reinstein
16th Suffolk District

I doubt Sen. Barrios would ever want to sponsor such legislation, and while I still say such actions are quite trivial considering the real problems our Commonwealth faces, it's impossible not be amused by Reinstein's proposed legislation. That being said, the Fluffernutter Threat Level has been reduced to Orange.

ADDENDUM, Aaron Margolis::
Perhaps Sen. Jarrett Barrios should look at some of our State's official symbols for other not-so-nutritious delicacies:
Official State Dessert: Boston Cream Pie (Adopted 1996)
Official State Cookie: Chocolate Chip Cookie (Adopted 1997)
Official State Berry: Cranberry (Adopted 1994)

I see lots of fat and sugar in there...

The Salem News provides us with some "Fluff Facts":

Who invented Marshmallow Fluff?

Archibald Query made the first batch in 1917 in his Somerville kitchen.

Who started the Durkee-Mower company?

Two Swampscott High graduates, H. Allen Durkee and Fred L. Mower.

What are the ingredients?

Corn syrup, sugar syrup, vanilla flavor and egg whites.

What is the nutritional content?

One tablespoon has 30 calories and zero fats.

How do you get it out of your child's clothing?

Warm water works as long as it doesn't damage the soiled material.

As someone said earlier ... "With all the real problems we are dealing with in Massachusetts, such as high crime in Boston, the loss of population, high taxes, terrorism, etc. etc., isn't it safe to say that fighting Fluff should not be on anyone's priority list?" Add Kathi Reinstein to the stupid list.

I was in fact a member of the House of Representatives in 1989 when a bill proposing to make the corn muffin the Official State Muffin came before the body. Firmly believing that the state should not name as its official muffin one that has a reputation of crumbling under the slightest pressure, I offered an amendment striking the word "corn" and inserting in its place the word "cranberry," for, as I said, it would be important to show that Massachusetts residents "have berries."

My amendment failed on a voice vote.

I had no idea fluff was so historic. I think our children should learn more about this proud delicacy of our commonwealth.

See.........this is the kind of crap Barrios is good for. Little whinebag tactics, no matter how insane the topic, and it makes people just want to slap him and respond. Kathi Reinstein is just showing her frustration and dealing with the idiot in her way. The way to deal with Barrios is to turn your back, ignore, and vote against the clown.

According to WB56 10 o'clock news, Barrios has signed on as a cosponsor of the Fluffernutter as official Sandwich legislation. Perhaps he's realized he got himself in a sticky situation.
